Well, we’ve done it. As of July 22, our dossier is complete and has been
sent to our nation’s capital for review. Once all the forms and documents are approved, they will be sent off to China! It is now a waiting game to hear back from China that we are LID or have a "logged in dossier". We then are able to get a referral and a picture of our child, but have anywhere from 3-6 months for this to happen. In
reading our previous blogs about the process, you can probably tell that this
is a huge relief to both Laura and I… mostly Laura for doing the majority of
the legwork to get all of the required paperwork pulled together.
The biggest challenge was bringing up to date all of our personal
legal documents. By the time we get a referral from China, our
documents such as our marriage license, birth certificates, reference letters,
etc. must all be current within 6 months. That is an amazing request when you
think about the quantity of documents we sent in.
Last week we were fortunate to spend a week in Port St. Joe’s,
Florida with Laura’s parents. To begin our trip, Laura and her mom made a “side
trip” to Tallahassee, FL (the state capital) to get our I-797 Immigration form
state sealed and send it off to our adoption agency. Our next step is to continue applying for adoption grants to help with some of the financial road blocks.
